Phototaxis

Five strains of photosynthetic bacteria were tested for their reactive response to different degrees of light intensity. One strain showed terrific results by showing the whole spectrum of pigments on solid media, with the same light source as a parameter and different placement. However, the results for liquid culture showed strong performance for biofilm and biomass production in comparison to pigments. Therefore, there is a huge potential for a bio-indicator for light intensity on the surface of material with this one strain.

Successful pigmentation experiment based on light-intensity. The color changes from green to orange for the most exposed to visible light.

Cyanobacteria Phototaxis on Solid Media

A test conducted to examine photosynthetic bacteria's response to different light intensity and the absence of light. The results are to inform computational simulation of growth on geometry in multiple scale.
